Astral Projection- Truth or Superstition?

Astral Projection is a process by which our consciousness temporarily leaves the physical body and functions independently.
The idea of astral travel is rooted in common worldwide religious accounts of the afterlife in which the consciousness' or soul's journey or "ascent" is described in such terms as "an...out-of body experience, wherein the spiritual traveller leaves the physical body and travels in his/her subtle body (or dreambody or astral body) into ‘higher’ realms."It is therefore associated with near death experiences and is also frequently reported as spontaneously experienced in association with sleep and dreams, illness, surgical operations, drug experiences, sleep paralysis and forms of meditation.
It is also sometimes cultivated for its own sake or may be believed to be a faculty derived from or necessary to some forms of spiritual practice. It may involve "travel to higher realms" called astral planes but is commonly used of any sensation of being "out of the body" in the everyday world, even seeing ones body from outside or above. It may be reported in the form of an apparitional experience, a supposed encounter with a doppelganger, some living person also seen somewhere else at the same time.
According to classical, medieval, renaissance Neoplatonist, later Theosophist and Rosicrucian philosophy, the astral body is an intermediate body of light linking the rational soul to the physical body, and the astral plane is an intermediate world of light between Heaven and Earth.
Similar concepts of "soul" travel appear in various other religious traditions, for example ancient Egyptian teachings present the soul as having the ability to hover outside the physical body in the ka, or subtle body.Taoist alchemical practice involves creation of an energy body by breathing meditations.

I took the above information freely from books i read or searches i made online, now to go back to the original question, is it a silly superstition or is there some truth in it?
Very little is known of the real power of the human mind, i've read the we consciously use only a small percentage of our potential and if we could somewhat increase it we'd be capable of unimaginable things and we could
achieve seemingly impossible "miracles".
I have recently come across a comprehensive 350 Pages guide that teaches you with step-by-step instructions on how to achieve Astral Projection yourself!
The author's name is Abhishek Agarwal and he is from India. It' well known that India is a land of mysteries and Strange and Unusual beliefs; Indian Sadhus and Yogis have been known to possess powers unknown to the Western world. They have been practicing Astral Projection since ages without any use of external aids. It is only since last century that the rest of world has started to take notice Astral Projection and its reality. Would the author have been from a western country i'd have not even mentioned him, but i've always been interested in India and i think i'll take the time to read the book and maybe you should too.
Don't forget the power of Strange and Unusual information.
